Our Sketch Writing curriculum is intended to give anyone the tools and theory to start writing sketch comedy for the stage and screen in the tradition pioneered by respected American comedy schools like The Second City and the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

There is no prior experience required to get started.

Each week students will have resources and lessons delivered to them, As well as a selection of student-written sketches for peer to peer feedback, and discuss possible ways to improve them via rewrites in a collaborative environment. Each week will feature a different homework assignment (e.g. topical current events sketches, character-based sketches, genre parody sketches, etc.) and a some information of best practices to ensure that everyone is well-equipped to tackle the assignment.

Students who do their homework each week will leave the course with at least six original sketches, at various levels of polish depending on how much effort they elect to spend doing the recommended rewrites.

Class Structure:
Each week, you will receive a lecture on weekly topics complemented with videos, scripts, links to helpful sites and more. You’ll be assigned writing exercises to get your creativity flowing and weekly assignments that you’ll submit to the teacher and/or discussion boards. You'll also be asked to read and comment on fellow students’ work as well, following specific feedback parameters.

Weekly Schedule:

Tuesdays: New lesson delivered along with previous weeks feedback.

Sunday Night: Homework Due

Throughout the week: Peer to peer collaborative feedback opportunities

Note: There is no 'live' element of this class. You fit it all into your own schedule, no need to convene at a particular time. There will be non-mandatory conference call meet ups for table reading

As this is a pure writing class, there is no end-of-term performance associated with this workshop.
