Lily Hensby

Lily Hensby

Lily Hensby (she/they) is a comedic actor, playwright and theatre maker. She is from Yuin Country and now lives and works in Naarm. Lil is one half of comedy duo Hensby & Beckett.

She has written and performed We're New Here (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, 2023) with comedic partner, Lotte Beckett. She has written/directed Last Time (Sydney & Melbourne Fringe, 2022), STALLS (play, ArtsLab, 2020), Pretty Fly for a Dead Guy (play, Shopfront, 2019), and D.O.A (play, Shopfront, 2019). She directed The Magnificent, Terrible Hottie Avery by Tasnim Hossain (play, Shopfront, 2018) and is the host of They Talked The Whole Time (podcast, Spotify, 2021). She has performed in Tom William Mitchell by Mark Rogers (play, Merrigong Theatre Company, 2018), Organs! by Nicole Pingon (play, Shopfront Arts Co Op, 2018), Love & Information by Caryl Churchill (dir. Tim Maddock, play, PACT, 2017) and various other comedic roles. In April 2023, Hensby & Beckett had a slot in MICF's Festival Club as part of their character sketch night.

Pretty Fly for a Dead Guy is published with Australian Plays Transform and her monologue This is Yours is published in This Was Urgent Yesterday by Currency Press. In 2023, Lily began producing Space Jam, a monthly improv jam for all women, non-binary and gender diverse people at The Improv Conspiracy in Melbourne. In February 2022, Lily started training at The Improv Conspiracy and by August, she became a member of the ensemble, performing in F*ck This, I Quit. In 2020, She was a writer in residence for Sydney Fringe Festival as part of the Art in Isolation program. In 2019, she was one of 14 writers selected nationally to participate in Writing Place SA for ATYP and Carclew SA. In 2017, Lily became an associate artist of re:group performance collective.

Lily holds a Bachelor of Performance and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) from the University of Wollongong.
