2012 has been a huge year for the Improv Conspiracy. We rebranded, changed names, and got a website! We found enough talented members to field our first two Harold teams! We started a successful monthly variety night, did trial shows in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and had an amazing debut run in the Melbourne Fringe Festival (selling out two-thirds of those shows)!
Above all else, we reached an amazing number of people. During the year we worked with over 50 enthusiastic students in our workshops, performed for hundreds of punters (not counting repeat customers), and built up a loyal following on Facebook and Twitter.
This is all fantastic, and we're quite thrilled and appreciative of your support which has taken us this far. However, rather than resting on our laurels, we're going to take advantage of our momentum and double down on 2013!
Here are some of the things we have planned for the new year:
Intensive "boot camp" workshops during school holidays, festivals, and other times when the demand is there. To start off we're offering an intensive Level 1 course during the first week of January, and an intensive Level 2 course during the second week! These courses condense a normal 8-week workshop into 3 full days of training.
Normal 8-week workshops resume on 21 January! Level 1 and Level 2 will be offered.
More workshops, more often: we've trained up a number of extremely talented teachers besides Adam, who are excited to teach the Improv Conspiracy approach to improv. During the year we'll be able to expand the program and offer additional teachers, core courses (Level 3 coming in the first half of the year), plus special-interest electives.
More shows, more often: we've been on a monthly show schedule, but it's time to move that to fortnightly in the short term and weekly a bit further down the track.
Full runs in 2013's Comedy Festival and Fringe Festival.
New Performers and Teams: we're getting ready to place some of our Level 2 graduates onto their first Harold teams, and keep going from there. By Comedy Festival we hope to have 4-5 teams in place.
New formats: the Harold will remain our signature format, but there are a few other classic "Chicago-style" formats that we're anxious to add to the repertoire. On top of that, we have some talented members who have expressed interest in devising their own formats!
Probably some other awesome stuff that I'm forgetting!
Excited? Cool! We'd love to provide more details on all of this stuff as it happens. To stay in the know, just follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and subscribe to our email list.
I'm still reading! Is there anything I can do to help?
Why, yes, thanks for asking!
Link to our website from your website, blog, etc. We're happy to trade links for improved search engine rankings.
Tell your friends about us. If you refer anyone to our intro workshops, YOU get a discount on your next workshop. Too easy!
Support local improv shows in Melbourne, even if they're not ours. There are heaps of great groups popping up all the time, and a stronger community helps ALL of us.
As we grow and add new workshops, we'll need places to hold them. If you know of any centrally-located rehearsal spaces that can be booked long-term, please let us know. We're happy to pay.
