Insert Morpheus Meme: "What if I told you... there are only 4 types of improv scenes?"

I was blessed (or cursed) to be a nerdy high school theatre kid when The Matrix released in theatres in 1999. I watched it multiple times in the cinema, and bought it as my first DVD.

Many years later, the first time I ever did an improv show I was truly proud of, I explained it as feeling "like Neo in The Matrix" – in perfect control of everything, anticipating futures, dodging bullets and kicking comedic ass with my teammates.

My personal "I Know Kung Fu" moment came through the study of Position Play – a novel approach to improvisation devised by Miles Stroth at the iO and Pack Theaters in Chicago and Los Angeles.

While I can't beam my knowledge and experience directly into your brains like Neo, I can certainly deliver a fun and engaging primer about the topic.

(We'll safely skip over any yuckiness involving discussions of blue or red pills, since some problematic internet people have taken all fun out of that particular Matrix metaphor in recent years 😅)
