When you're doing, coaching or watching improv, what do you value most in a scene?
Josh Chodziesner: Getting out of your head and finding ways to stay consistently excited by the opportunity to build something that you, your scene partner and the audience can all get on board with
Laura Josephine: Confidence and trust are the secret ingredients to great improv. Scenes are easier when we're working less and playing with more
Adam Kangas: Having as much fun as possible while keeping the audience on-side β by all means, be a freak, but be an empathetic one
Barney Pollock: Playing to lose and loving every loss, emotion based pattern play, driving a petrol tanker into a burning building
Hayley Tantau: The best kind of improv is born from feeling safe, silly, and playful. Itβs when following the fun and asking βif this is true, what else is true?β becomes second-nature
Matt Young: Improv can be easy - be generous, trust your intuition, use your body, aim for clarity, and have a few key moves in your back pocket

Hayley Tantau has been lurking around The Improv Conspiracy since 2013, where she has performed, taught, and coached a tonne of improv and sketch. She received the 2018 Moosehead Award for her Melbourne International Comedy Festival solo show EMPOWERFUL and has written and performed in The Comedy Channel’s television series, The Slot. “Hayley is one of the best teachers I have had. I will remember her words of encouragement long after I have completed the course, and I know I can always come back to her for guidance. She is the ultimate balance between guiding you to create your best work on stage and letting you find the fun by yourself“ – Aisling M
